I just got back to NYC from Boulder yesterday afternoon and didn’t even have time to go back to my apartment before class, which I think tells you a little about how my next two weeks are going to go. I’m missing home a lot today, so I thought I’d share one of my favorite making-related quotes. I am incredibly thankful for the weekend I had with my family in Boulder, and I am ready to kick some ass here at the end of the semester in NYC. December can be insane so don’t forget to carve out a little you-time to make something!
Happy Friday, Everyone! Can you EVEN believe Thanksgiving is next week? I for one am super excited. As I get older (ha, I’m 20), Thanksgiving is becoming more and more my favorite Holiday. Good food, family, and a parade?? What else could a girl want? Here are my favorite things from Around this internet this week. Did I miss anything?
Feeling bored with your usual date night routine? Try these ten cute ideas!
Finals are around the corner (terrifying, I know) and if you’re not like me and actually have them this year, you should try out some new study tips. Teen Vogue has some that are actually pretty ingenious.
Did you know that the National Science Foundation sends an Artist-in-Residence to Antarctica every year? The one this year is keeping a tumblr about her experiences there.
This article about selfies hits the nail on the head! As someone who thinks a lot about the intersection of femininity/internet culture/feminism a lot, this was a really great read.
The selfie flaunts the restrictions of “good girl” culture like a badass teenager sitting in the back of the classroom, refusing to apologize for what she says. I, for one, want to sit next to her in detention.
Guys let’s talk about Dr Ruth for like 5 minutes. She’s on twitter and Buzzfeed put together a list of 12 Tips for Improving Your Sex Life. They’re all so cute!
Jacqeline Clair of York Avenue had the cutest apartment tour on The Everygirl earlier this week. I’m completely in love with her little studio apartment and it’s got my gears turning about how I could do one of my own…
Ooh this delicate Crystal Necklace from Stripes and Sequins is too pretty to deal with. I’ll add it to the long list of things I want to make when the semester is over.
I’m watching Scandal as I write this post (in bed, drinking tea) and I, much like every other woman in America, want to dress like Olivia Pope when I grow up so this article about her wardrobe had me frothing at the mouth.
Three words: Dairy Free Eggnog.
I just got this Linen Bulletin Board from Poppin and it’s perfect in my room for hanging pictures, inspiration, and finished products.
My mom sent me a link to this print on Etsy and I am 100% in love with it and all the other stuff in the store.
I just stumbled across Lisa Congdon’s hand lettering project and I LOVE every single one. I am particularly partial to this Steinbeck quote. I’ve been feeling really inspired lately and I am really excited to get some new projects started this weekend! What inspires you?
Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I spent mine working on secret projects, watching too much Breaking Bad with the boyfriend, and doing lots and lots of school work (sometimes all three at the same time, no shame!). My embroidery has fallen by the wayside the past few months as I’ve tried my hand at some other crafts so I thought I’d share some projects I did over the summer (which seems like yesterday, but was actually MONTHS ago) and have been working on this fall.
Liz Lemon Quote Wall Hanging
Who doesn’t love good ol’ LL? She’s been one of my favorite TV characters for a long time, and this quote is one of the shining examples of everything that’s great about her. 85% sass, 15% complete mess. Kind of like all us ladies, amirite? (If I were a stand up comedian, this is the part where you’d throw tomatoes at me.)
I based my design for Liz on a bookmark my mom got me from Mates Rubbish for my birthday. I love the way her mouth & eyes turned out. Not so much her weird monster hands.
My Mom’s Favorite Saying
It’s a little hard to read in the picture, but it says “A Good Life Takes Effort,” which is an idea that comes straight from my mom. This piece is a total work-in-progress, but I wanted to share it anyways because I’m pretty excited about it. The blogosphere talks a lot about “intentions” and “mindfulness” but honestly, the real good stuff only happens when you do the work. I can sometimes be pretty lazy about things I don’t want to do (like cook, and clean, and socialize), and sometimes I get upset that I’m not where I want to be, and then I have to remind myself that I am the only one who can change things. I’ll probably frame this one when it’s done and hang it right at the foot of my bed as a reminder.
I’m pretty bad a picking (and/or sticking to) color schemes for my pieces, so I just kind of let them speak to me as I go. For this, I figured the rose should be red and I liked the way the yellow looked on the polka dots. I think it turned out pretty cute, no?
How sweet is this little tea bag? All the images on this piece are iron-on pattern transfers from Sublime Stitching, either the books or the loose patterns. Iron-on patterns are my favorite way to do a piece, and I think theirs are the best around, both in quality & imagery. I highly recommend following their Instagram as an amazing source for embroidery inspiration.
Well, that’s it for me, for now folks! What have you made recently? I love to see what other people are up to! Share in the comments & have a great week, lovely!
